Live Edge DIY Slabs for Hairpin Legs
Alligator Juniper is native to Northern Arizona and features a beautifully distinct grain pattern and "cedar-like" smell. The juniper logs are reclaimed from natural disaster (forest fire, beetle infestation, etc), forestry thinning or urban development; giving new life to otherwise discarded resources. Once sourced, the logs are milled to thickness in slabs are seasoned using the traditional air dry method to 6-7% moisture content.
Our signature style is to blend mid-century modern and rustic influences in our live-edge furniture pieces. Instead of filling every gap or defect with epoxy, we intentionally leave flaws both natural and unnatural to preserve and accent the story of the tree. We thickness plane our slabs, cut them to length and use a multiple stage sanding process to a 220 grit finish. Our standard finish is a 2 coat natural danish oil to accentuate the natural beauty and grain in the wood.
